Czechvar, at just under 8 weeks from packaging - the brand states a very clear production date on the base of the can. It's called Budweiser Budvar in some markets. This Czech classic is almost oily-tasting with flowery, aromatic notes and succulent malt. Just so good, the Czechs have been making great beer for so long it is easy to forget that this exemplar of fine brewing is unique and has never been copied. (Ditto with fresh Pilsner Urquell).

I chased it down with a tot of one of my Jack Daniels minglings.

I toured the Budweiser Budvar brewery in Ceske Budejovice back in 1994 and had a grand time walking around the facility and drinking their ultra-fresh beer. World class, that's for sure. (And slightly better than the Pilsner Urquell that is being exported to the US these days, though that may be due to poor handling by distributors and retailers.)

What's your fave?

I'm big on Resin and also enjoy Apollo. Bengali Tiger and Righteous were good, but I didn't care much for The Crisp or Sweet Action.

Just cracked open a bottle of Rogue Double Dead Guy. Pretty good stuff. But I'm not sure that it's THAT much better than regular Dead Guy. And Dead Guy is probably my favorite beer.

Just demolished a Corona in just under 8 seconds after a laboring run on a hot day. I usually post this at least once a year after a run like this, but it's worth repeating...I realize that Corona gets poo-poo'd alot by beer pros, but to me, there are not any beers that hit the spot better than Corona after a good workout on a hot day. It hit the spot at Hilton Head last week, too. Nice beach beer. Corona does have its moments.

Drinking some IPA from the newly opened West Sixth Brewing here in Lexington. Truly one of the better IPA's I've had. And it only comes in a can!
