    The Rohr McHenry Distilling Company

    http://www.bentonnews.net/Features/Mchenry.htm

Really nice history of this long gone distillery..."A McHenry ad in the Benton Argus commented that the firm's "strictly pure rye whiskey" was "double distilled in a copper lined doubler, from thoroughly cleaned rye and pure spring water,"
    Rohrsburg, Pennsylvania

Do any of our PA SBers know of this location and distillery?

I have nothing to offer other than thanks for sharing. Love reading about Distilleries I had no idea existed outside of the name of the whiskey. Keep that kind of stuff coming!

Hi: My Mother was a Mchenry. The distillery was located in Benton Pa. It caught fire in 1911 and because of the fire and the death of State Rep, John Geiser Mchenry (who ran the Distillery at the time) nothing is left really. The old Mchenry house on top of Distillery hill is still lived in. I dont think it's a Mchenry who owns it though. Google Mchenry Benton Pa, & the whole family story should pop up. You may know the bottles have the date 1812 on them. This year it's 200 years for us and the reunion this year is June 29th at the Benton fire hall Any more questions feel free to ask !

I live in McHenry, IL....I wonder of someone from the family pioneered out here.

    http://encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org/pages/801.html

"In 1832 Major William McHenry led an expeditionary force through northern Illinois during the Black Hawk War. Settlement of the Fox River Valley began over the next few years, and on the river's west bank, at the site of an old Indian ford, the hamlet of McHenry developed."
