Single barrel distribution

Does anyone know- are single barrel bottlings from the same barrel sent to the same geographic area or are they broken up and sent all over the country (to different distributors)?

It would not be broken up by design, but rather by how much a particular state may order. If Iowa, for instance, only orders 10 cases of Willett Rye, rest assured that KBD will ship the rest on the next PO they get, whether it's Wisconsin or California.

Are you certain? Because if not then, then may it is the distributors? I have seen (if I understand it correctly ), what trumpstylz is talking about. What appears to be a case (or two) of single barrel whiskey where it seems like every bottle is from a different barrel.

When I've seen cases, and I mean an actual box from the distillery, all the bottles are from the specific barrel. Any distributer may order hundreds of cases, in which instance they end up with an array of bottles from different barrels.

Please keep in mind, that the inventory management of a retailer will also dictate what they have on the shelf.

Yeah, I think it would be logical that cases would contain bottles from the same barrel, and distributors would get shipped cases packed at the same time. I have no idea if bottlers have a strategy around this kind of specific distribution, but then again, there seems to be a pretty big difference in 1B if you compare FR and BT to Beam and WT.

I was talking to a buddy who wanted to try a different barrel of Ezra brooks single barrel (apparently somewhat hard to find), and he was saying he wanted to get it somewhere else so that he could try a different barrel. I told him it would probably be the same b/c it would still most likely come from the same distiller, but I'm not sure.

I have watched them bottle Blanton's which is a single barrel and they all go into the same case on the same pallet. Which I assume goes to the one or two distributor(s).

Barrels vary WIDELY, regardless of being from the same distillery, so I would encourage your friend to keep hunting!
