Prichard's Double Barreled Bourbon

Saw this in my local store recently and was curious if there was any additional info about it. Reviewed the past thread but it is closed so I thought I would open a new one. In addition to the Double Barreled Bourbon there was a "Double Chocolate" Bourbon available. Took a couple of pictures of it on the shelf.

So I presume this is the newest release of this Double Barreled bourbon that was described in the letter from the previous thread? Has anybody tried it yet? Especially if you tried the original. No indication of the source so don't know if it is HH as was speculated in the prior thread.

Anybody tried the Chocolate Bourbon? There is also now a rye that I presume is also sourced from elsewhere. It is not described as "Double Barreled" but is noted to be barreled, aged and bottled at the Prichard distillery. I presume it must have been barreled somewhere else first.

A curiosity to be sure but not sure I am ready to take the plunge without hearing a bit about it from others or trying a bit if I can find it at a local bar.

True, but they seem to be trying to do something a bit distinctive with it rather than just bottling it. Now, whether that something distinctive is good distinctive or not so good distinctive is another story.

But I try to support smaller distilleries when I can if the product is reasonably good and don't mind paying a little bit of a premium to do so. Their rum has been good in the past although I haven't tried it of late and while they don't distill the whiskey if it helps them stay in business I am OK with that.

Would be nice if they provided more details on where they source the whiskey but I know that is generally the exception rather than the rule.

I had a bottle of the regular double barrel and didn't like it at all. YMMV obviously. I've got no interest in chocolate bourbon.

I notice that the Rye bottle says "Tennessee Rye Whiskey" on the front label. Is there anything on the back that clarifies that statement?

I confess I did not look. I was there to get the HW Campfire and just noticied them in passing. I doubt there is much if any useful info on the back but next time I wander through I will look if the question remains unresolved.

I was reading about Prichard's on....my memory slips me now, a website with a bunch of different distillery tours on it, done by husband and wife.... anyway, the Tennessee Rye is just mashed and distilled in Tennessee. Nothing about charcoal mellowing or anything like that used in other more marketed Tennessee whiskeys.

I remembered liking the Double Barreled, but recently tried some and was not impressed. I agree with StraightNoChaser, just another indie full of indistinct juice.

Thanks. I saw your post a while back (which I found by way of Chuck Cowdery's blog) which may have helped bring it to my attention. I try to check out indie distillers when possible out of curiosity as I like to support them when I can if they make a halfway decent product. I have had the Prichard's rum which seems to be their strength. Given the generally middlin' opinion at best of the DB Bourbon I will probably pass.

I confess I was curious about the Rye and the novelty of the Chocolate Bourbon but a around $50 for the bourbon I would want to try it first! Will have to see if I can find it at a local watering hole.
