What Bourbon Did You Purchase today? - Summer 2012

I tried three new stores today, all on the same street, to see if I could find something good/new/different. The first one had the best selection, I ended up taking the JDSB for $48, which is not a bad price for around here. It was either that or the prichard's double barrel for at least $10 more, or the Jefferson's reserve for $50. I let price decide and went with the JD, but I may head back again for the Prichard's. The next store, about two blocks away had OF 86 for $19. I bought it just because I've never seen any OF other than the B-day bourbon and wanted to give it a try. The last store, which wasn't the last one on the street, just the last one I went to today had bulleit bourbon for $35, so I went with that. Of the three, the first store had the best selection.

In the weeks ahead I'm going to have to drive into brooklyn to find some high west and other rare finds.

I'm still not ready to buy whiskey on-line. I don't want to miss the delivery and have to go down to the fed-ex, or ups warehouse to pick it up.

It's been a while since I've posted in this thread. I haven't bought much lately because I'd been trying to make some room in my cabinet by finishing some of my open bottles. Mission accomplished. I ended up creating quite a bit of room in my cabinet, so I thought I'd better fill it up again. Below is a list, and pictures of what I managed to acquire just before, during and after my vacation. I have to be honest and say that the only Jack Daniels that is for me is the Silver Select. The others are for a couple of my buddies that I used to bowl with. Also, one of the liters of HH has found a new home. I should be good for a while, but I've said that before. Cheers! Joe

I don't know how an independant liquor store had this on their shelf, but I bought an EC18 bottled for Rivers Casino in Des Plaines, IL barreled in 1990.

On vacation in Michigan, and picked up a bottle of Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star (great bourbon for $16 - and I never see it back home in Georgia). Now just have to wait until I GET back home to try it

You won't regret any of those purchases...the FR 17yr OBSV's are really good. They're very different then the standard FR's as they show some wood to them which isn't typical of of FR's. The WTR101 is a very nice rye and I'm sad to see it going away.

In terms of my supply that will last me a couple years if I drink nothing else...I'm on about a 1-1.5 bottle a month consuption rate. We picked some barrels from BT, FR, and KBD at the sampler and the bottles of FR and BT came in at the same time. The one good thing about KBD taking a little longer to bottle is that it gives me some time to recover from this purchase...hopefully it's another couple months!
