I dont hate EC12 enough to give it away, even though my dad has my bottle right now... I just don't find anything 'special' about it like I do with the EWSB Vintage's.

EC18 (three oz.), cheap red vermouth (one oz.), Angostura bitters (three dashes) and four ice cubes (Arrowhead water, frozen yesterday).

I am reminded of the pronouncement by the author (David Embury) of my one and only book on mixed drinks, to the effect that eight to one is the ideal ratio of spirits to modifiers in most, if not all, mixed drinks (provided one uses spirits that one would willingly drink straight). In truth, I think this drink would benefit from a slightly smaller proportion of vermouth, which all but dominates the flavor. If I had started with, say, Jim Beam white, I wouldn't be able to taste the bourbon at all.

Next time, I'll try a half ounce of vermouth, which would yield a ratio of six to one.

    Yours truly,
    Dave Morefield

Don't forget, I'm talking about the '90. I haven't had the pleasure to try any of the recent bottlings. The '90 is a pleasurable pour for a sunday afternoon, but it doesn't knock my socks off... that's what I need at the end of a hard day at the office!

Woodford Reserve. I have been a critic of this bourbon in the past. I have enjoyed OF just as much...even slightly more than WR. Well, for the moment I am finding WR quite enjoyable. Seems sweeter to me than before. Interesting that I now find OF100 somewhat hot and dry and now I find WR smooth and sweet. Makes me wonder what's going on at Brown-Foreman.

Jeff, I have always perceived Woodford Reserve as sweet and smooth. Its one of my favorites, for sure. I like OF, too (especially the 100 proof), but I strongly prefer WR.

I'm not sure its worth $30, but on the other hand, I wouldn't want to live without it.

In the past WR has tasted, to me, somewhat harsh and dry. OF100 was more full-flavored and smooth. Not to mention, half the price Lately OF 100 has seemed hot and harsh, both to me and CL. I don't know what possesed me to buy this bottle of WR tonight, but I'm glad I did. BTW Tim, have you sampled any OF 100 from a new bottle lately? If so, do you feel it has changed any?

NC-bought OF 100 was hot, but I recently had KY-bought OF 86 and it was much better - what I remember OF being.

Tonight it's ORVW 12yo Lot B. I'm still kicking myself for not stocking up last December--Montgomery Co., MD had it for $19.39 and I only bought ONE BOTTLE!! ARRRRRGH!
