    Embarrassing Bourbon Moments

I was reorganizing my liquor cabinet and thinking I was alone, gave the label of one of my rarer bottles a light kiss. Girlfriend walked into the room the moment it happened and asked me if her eyes had deceived her [in a judgemental tone].

Does anyone else have an embarrassing bourbon moment? (Stories that were the result of having one too many are more than welcome)

Sorry, but your question comes a little late. I've reached the age where I'm pretty much immune or inured to embarrassment.... bourbon-related or otherwise.

At least now she knows where your priorities lie. If she still marries you, you've got it made.

Oh that is CLASSIC! Laughed out loud. Wish I had as good a story to share! Being caught lovingly gazing at my collection is all I've got.

I've posted this before, but it fits here too:

I do some contract work at Nursing Homes on the side. I deal with residents diets and one of which is labeled as "NAS" for "No Added Salt" (mainly for cardiac patients).

There was a new nurses aide training. At breakfast she looked at the residents meal card and asked me "What does NAS stand for?"

Of course my response was "No age statement."

Got to pay more attention at work.....

It would seem that either definition of NAS might apply in a nursing home--or anyplace where mentioning a lady's age might be construed as lack of good breeding.

    Too funny...

Heheh, I could relate a few, the latest being my girlfriend's comment when confronted with the recent growth of assorted bottles within the bar area- as opposed to those bottles hiding down in the bunker, a place she is mostly unaware of.

    "Are they Breeding, or what?"

What bottle could inspire such tenderness?

I think my most embarrassing moment was last year at the beach, when I was enjoying the sun and sand with my lovely girlfriend (now fiancee). I told her I wasn't feeling well (which was true), and went to lay down in the room. I was surfing on the iPad and found a liquor store about 45 minutes away that looked promising. I called them up and they just happened to have some Pappy. I suddenly felt better and jumped in the car. Returning to the hotel almost 2 hours later, I found a very confused and upset GF, who thought that I had went hunting for something more...carnal. Then I had to admit that I'd been whiskey hunting, and had to reveal the giant haul of booze that I was trying to sneak into the room. We made up soon after.

Drinking too much Pennsylvania rye from the 1900's until the 1970's and getting sick and puking- and Michter's Schaefferstown Master Distiller Dick Stoll was in the room, as was Sam Komlenic from Whisky Advocate and John Lipman (among others...). Dick still laughs about it when we get together, so I guess it's all good.
If you have anything Michter's or Pennco and would like to sell it or share it with me, please let me know.
