What is the best well whiskey in the country???

Buckyy asked this over in the 'Tasting' thread, and I thought it was a good question, worth discussion.

Most local bars use Old Crow or Jim Beam White, but the VFW's (Kansas still has a lot of private clubs) usually offer Old Charter 8 year/80 proof as their 'Well' whiskey. That's about as tasty as inexpensive bourbon gets around here. Whatcha got?

Honestly I don't know what most of the bars I frequent use as their well, I'm always looking at the top couple of shelves Seriously though, I see a lot of JB white used here in Lexington.

My favorite of what I would call a "well whiskey" would probably be Evan Williams 7yo black-label.

Do we have anyone hereabouts in the seven-to-eight-figure income range? I'd bet that somewhere there is a country club or a bar in a five-star hotel where the well bourbon is something like Eagle Rare 10 year single-barrel or ORVW 10/90.

Of course, I'll never experience that first hand, hence my opening question.

On the other hand, only once during my two-year love affair with bourbon have I even had occasion to notice the well bourbon. In that case it was Jim Beam white.

Here in Virginia, they basically buy the absolute cheapest stuff they can, and still call it 'bourbon'. It usually is something along the lines of Kentucky Tavern or Kentucky Gentleman.

Honestly, I almost never order bourbon in a bar around here...because to get anything close to what I'm used to at home it'd be $8/drink minimum. And that's for Maker's or Knob Creek. No thanks.

If its not a "Blended Bourbon" (Bourbon Supreme) in the well it is usally the two Jeff mentioned or Ten High.

All not bad and most places pretty cheap.

I thought in times past, I have seen Aristocrat in the well for many different liquors. Do they have a bourbon bottling?
