Thank you Sir for not saying "Cheesy Gold Foil" because that is blasphemous to use such a pharse when speaking of this fine bourbon.

Can't experiment twice in one day (too daring) so the evening cocktail will be that proven favorite Old Grand Dad.

Not a bourbon, but still an American, though this stuff is so unique that I really don't know what to call it. First taste of St. George Single Malt, Batch 12. Damn. Nose like a Vin Santo or Verdicchio more than a whiskey, very crisp and fruity. In taste it is so clean, malty, and fruity, with barely a hint of char or oak. So light and pleasing on the finish. I am definitely going to buy a bottle of this.

I've been hoping to try St. George too but have resisted pulling the trigger for some reason. Sounds good, by your description. May have to make the leap!

Nice one, Dog. That stuff is shit-your-pants good and I'll be sorry to see the last of the bottle I've been nursing for two years go.

Thanks to one of the awesome people here I had a nice little sampler last night.

OGD from UD (1978) Star of the show. Butterscotch all the way.
ORVW 10/107 (current bottling) Definitely better than OWA. More flavor.
ER17 (2012) Good and balanced. Not worth $120+ a bottle that you pay around here.
Lot B VERY similar to Weller 12 but sweeter and more flavorful. Still get that strange peaty scotch flavor that is there in the weller 12.
High West Campfie tasted like scotch. Don't care for scotch.
High West rye was ok I had a tiny sample and had a hard time discerning the flavors. Went down easy though.

    Thanks SBer(s)!

EW 1783. Bought this on a whim today. Not much to it. Light nose, not a lot of "bourbon" flavors. It is pretty smooth (not as smooth as say, 4R YL, but it's 55% of the price). It's not particularly complex, but it's a lot more drinkable neat than Dickel #12.

1783 is also eminently mixable . . . we all have at least one friend who wants that.

You give me too much credit, good sir.

I've moved on to the Breckenridge. I was chagrined to find today in my local purveyor that the price of this bottle has gone up $2, to $40. It's probably my fault too, as I pointed out several days ago that they were beating the competition by $9 a bottle. At $40, it's now within $3 of two more that interest me that I haven't tried. Bulleit 10, and Bernheim's wheater. I do love my wheaters.
