Out in Houston visiting my sis. We always head to Spec's on Smith almost first thing. While they have a decent selection, it was prerry uninspiring. I'll be sipping on OWA for the next 5 days.

Joe, that's a long story so I'll just post part of it in this thread. For more than 40 years I bought every premium Bourbon that came on the market and if I liked it bought a case. Well, I didn't always buy a case of some of the specialty bottlings we liked. I happened to be at the store when the Bourbon Heritage Collection came out so I bought a bottle each of the 12 year Fitzgerald, 10 year Weller Centennial, 15 year I. W. Harper and 10 year Dickel Select for a tasting I was hosting that evening.
The selection was a hit so I went back the next morning only to find the shelf empty. Called the manager over, "Tom, you got any more of this Heritage collection"? "Yeah, we got three sets and you bought one yesterday, we haven't put the rest out yet" I"ll take 'em all if that's alright". "Sure Squire, your money's good here".
They're some that I only bought a bottle or two, Beam's Distiller's Masterpiece, Port finished, the 12 and 15 year Limited edition Wild Turkeys and a few others I don't recall offhand, small batches, single barrels, that sort of thing. I do remember getting excited when Four Roses came out with a single barrel only to discover I liked their small batch expression more.
I could go on but those posts should be over in the General Discussion.
Decided to open up some of my recent dusties recently. I had a pour of ND Old Taylor last night and it was light years better than the first pour I had of it when I opened it a few days ago. Is it more common for older bourbons (more than recent bottles) to need some time to get better? Because it was... like a butterscotch bomb. Glad I grabbed 3 bottles of it. Also tried some old Colonel Lee BiB with a tax stamp from the early 80s. It was also really good, definitely a kick up from the tamer Old Taylor. I am excited to have another pour of it in a week or so. Finished the night with another pour of the ND Old Grand Dad 86, which again was 10x better than when I first opened it. Unlike the first two pours, I am dying knowing that it is my only bottle.
On a related note, I have only been on this site for a few months and I would like to thank everyone on here for being so helpful, especially to a newbie who is just getting started.
I'd say you're off and running.

Another Eagle Rare Single Barrel. I'm really impressed with this one.
Willett R/E 7yr tonight...It's a sad day as this bottle has been open for a couple years and it finally gave up it's last pour. I have a couple more in the bunker but I'm going to keep those hidden for a while!
