Re: What bourbon are you drinking? Winter 12/13

I promised I'd hit the VWFRR, and did so twice. Now I'm on to the GBS EC15. Everyone is asleep. "Along long the watchtower" from my first dead show @ buffalo in 1989 on the headset. All is well

Sounds like a great one, bro. There was a bit of the VWFRR and GBS EC15 in my glass tonight, as well. And, a few more, too! Merry Christmas to you!

Enjoyed the last pour of a PHC 2011. Now attempting another pour of Grand Traverse 100% Straight Bourbon. Not any better than it was last night. Ah well.

I feel your pain both figuratively and literally. I finally got a couple of bottles of GTS that I ordered back in Februray, and I can't even partake of one because of a stinking head cold that is going on 3 weeks.

Opened my second handle of Larceny. Actually, it doesn't have a handle so maybe it's just family size. Any way, I must be adjusting to the stuff. The first bottle took me a while to appreciate. This one is good from the get go. First in a Glencairn and then a big pour on the rocks.

Last night at my grandparent's for dinner, my brothers and I had a look in the liquor cabinet and came up with this old bottle of Four Roses. We each had a taste and put it away for next time we're over -- it was pretty cool to have a little of Grandpa's old whiskey. He's only been gone a few years, but he must have stopped drinking whiskey a lot longer ago than that. Anyone know how old this stuff is?

FR sold the blend from the 60s until the early 2000s. That doesn't look like a particularly old bottle; I'd guess it came from toward the end of that period.

First thing to note is that this is not bourbon. If you visit the Four Roses website you can check out the history of the company and place the 4R whiskey in the timeline between when it stopped being bourbon and when it starting being bourbon again--and really fine bourbon at that. Or you can read Col. Charles "Crotchety" Cowdery's book, Bourbon Straight.
