Thought it would be a good comparison to The Irishman 70 which is less expensive and younger but only has pot still and single malt without the grain. Probably won't crack it open until closer to the holiday.
Thanks guys --- Good to know that the Tullamore 12 is a legit upgrade to the standard issue. Maybe I'll give it a shot for this coming holiday.

Finally bought (and tried) my first FRSmB standard bottling. I have read many posts about this bottle and I have to agree with the many that are in favor of this bottle. I am definitely going to keep one open in my cabinet and one ready to be opened behind it! I can't wait to pick up an LE addition and try the higher proof!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I do not think that the standard FRSmB and the LE are the same whiskey. Each year Jim Rutledge chooses a few recipes to "marry" together and makes that the year's LE Small Batch, and I think it varies from year to year. So the difference between the regular SmB and the LESmB would be much more than just the proof.

You're not wrong. The standard small batch is always a mix of OBSO, OBSK, OESK and OESO according to the Four Roses web site.

Many, many Four Roses answers here ^ and the 4R website is a good source too. They explain it well.

Sorry, I will call myself out on irresponsible posting
I didn't mean it was just bottled at higher proof, I guess I was just excited how good it was and that I know where to get some 2012 LE. Either way I was excited that I gave the SmB a shot.

They are definitely different flavor profiles but that 2012 LE is a fantastic vatting. If you can swing it I'd grab it.
