Re: Empty Bottle Support Group 2013

Finally finished a 2011 GTS that's been lingering since October. Usually I'll look at a bottle that's under half full and think, "I'll go ahead and kill that bottle this weekend." I think this is the 3rd time I tried to take this beast down by myself and I finally succeeded. I did the last two ounces in style with an Old Staggfashioned. Burp.

    Empty Bottle Support Group 2013

Finished a 750 of VOB BIB last night. Bought it from TPS last fall. Won't be going to the recycling bin though, as I bought a 1.75 at the same time to back it up. Not one of my absolute favorites, but a great pour, especially from a value standpoint.

Finished my first and last bottle of Old Overholt. When new at this you have to try it all.

That's the spirit, TT! Damn the "consensus opinion", and try them for yourself. I despair every time I read when someone asks for and acts upon the boards consensus opinion. The only group that an individual should listen to and truly trust, is his own group of taste buds.

You're absolutely right. You can only trust your own taste bud. The thoughts and opinions here are really good guidelines but you have to eventually taste it for yourself to know whether you like it or not. Unfortunately, that is one of the reasons why i have way too many bottles opened currently and way too many bottles waiting to be opened. I have found that my taste buds have agreed as well as disagreed with some of the well liked as well as the disliked around here.

I agree and disagree I like to try everything. There has been times I have bought things that a trusted member warned me against and I thought I should have listened.

    I've never done that before.

Re: Empty Bottle Support Group 2013

I trust my own instincts. But, I do give some deference to opinions of people on this board within reason. I have received some great advice on bourbons to try. Each and every one of these has been an enjoyable experience, even if I don't like a particular bourbon as well as something that I have had before. I don't like to always order the same thing off the menu at a restaurant either.

Sure, I would love to try some of the top shelf bourbons that are discussed and maybe some day I will. So, when I see posts about $100+ (actually $50+) I read them with interest but I am like Bargain Basement Bob, I read and live vicariously. Yeah, I will probably fork over $$ for ECBP or Stagg at some point but they won't be regular pours. They will be special treats. Of course, there is only so much interest in posts about VOB or EC12. We all want to hear about the special pours. We all can enjoy that one of us is enjoying something special.

An empty bottle is sad but at the same time it commemorates an experience that one of us has enjoyed.
