Re: Are you guys STILL drinking tonight??

Tonight I feel brave and grabbed the Stagg...with a little ice...man does that stuff need cut..but much to its taste profile benefit...at least you can appreciate the taste with a little water as opposed to going numb.

Tonight, it is Woodford Reserve. A large pour with about six small ice cubes. A wonderful drink.

Re: Are you guys STILL drinking tonight??

As a personal celebration tonight, I started the night with a few pours of Wild Turkey 12 year and just finished it up with a hefty pour of AH Hirsch 20 year. I love Hirsch bourbons more and more each time I have a pour. This will be a bourbon I will truly hate to eventually see all gone.

    Evenn ' All
I am at work ,but early this mornn' after the run around I had a good sip of ORVW 10yr 107 .... before heading off to bed ,,, A few of you know that back in July I had a person ( only due to the fact bad words are not postable here ) feel that my FULL SIZE Dodge truck was invisible or can stop in less than 1/4 of a car lenght from 35mph .... well I am sorry it cann't , ... After waiting a month I was able to get it in the shop and fixed . I do not carry rental on my insurance so it was against the other partys ,,, got to drive a 2003 extra cab 4x4 Dakota , nice but not something I would own .... First sign of trouble is the Chief of WAR and FINANCE is PO"D ,,, her checking account is bouncing paper all over , ,,, Enterprize Rental Took the FULL amount from her debit card but FAILED to tell us ,,,, They claimed they called but got no answer , (true , time and dates we are not home or was out ) So I have to get a paid statement from them and will be hunting down the other insurance company to pay , found that at least here they , all companys play the game of not paying until they are pinned or taken to court ,,, they find to many people just give up and eat the 4-500 for the rental ...
A glass of ORVW and the world is at least better

Geez Bill, sorry to hear about the trouble you're having. I went through the same crap with the insurance companies while still living in CA and some guy in a 3/4 ton pickup rear ended me in my 3 month old Maxima... This was 7 years ago now, but I remember the aggravation like it was yesterday. Hey, at least you have yourself a pour of some very fine bourbon to take the edge off. Enjoy

3 guesses...OFBBSP03 of course. It seems that I can't pour anything else right now. Nice problem to have

Re: Are you guys STILL drinking tonight??

It was hard day at the Quarry. After a 30 mile detour on the Buell to clear my head, its OFBBSP03 for the first time. My first sniff was a little disappointing. For some reason I was expecting less alcohol and more butterscotch/caramel. After a second approach, and a shift in expectations, I think its great. I will post on tasting board when I've done justice to this pour.
Conclusion: I will be bringing OFBBSP03 to the Gazebo. Fear Not you non-Kentuckians, the OFBBSP03 will flow.

    Vat\'s Up?

No, I'm not joining our Governor in ridiculing a certain candidate's accent. I mean "vat" as in "combine two or more bourbons".

I've been trying to finish a bottle of EC 18, which I probably won't replace anytime soon. It's interesting, but it's too dry and charred-tasting to be consistently enjoyable, to my palate.

Way on the other side of the bitter-to-sweet spectrum is Eagle Rare 10 y/o, 101 proof, which is almost too sweet and smooth.

Today I tried an ounce and a half of EC 18 and a half ounce of ER 10. The result is most worthwhile. The balance of caramel to char is much improved. The EC 18 adds character and punch to the sweetness of the ER, and yet neither submerges the other.

This was a most fortuitous experiment. I have enough EC 18 for at least one more try. I'll have to decide whether to repeat this vatting or try it with a different bourbon, possibly a wheater.

    Yours truly,
    Dave Morefield

I think the concensus so far is that, after you get over the fact that it isn't last years Birthday Bourbon, It's wonderful.

Re: Are you guys STILL drinking tonight??

Well, I forced the half-empty bottle of OFBBSP03 away for a moment. After all it IS a limited edition and 5 bottles will only go so far Tonight it is EC12yo. It's good to know that after the limited super-premiums have come and gone, there will be many great "Old Faithfuls" to return to. EC12 is a standard in my glass!
