My vote is for a vatting. 2:1 Larceny:EC12. That'll cost ~$40, give you 1500 mL to play with instead of 750, and you'll be pleased with the results (YMMV), all courtesy of our friends at Heaven Hill. Best of luck.

Plus you can't get the EC18 any longer and the EC20 is as pricey, if not more so, than JP18. I have to fall back on my rural Delta roots and the old storekeeper who told me once that "you can't shine s*#t!"

You can't replace the taste of SW juice for less than $40. If somebody out there was doing it ... there wouldn't be any left!

If he wants aged woody whisky for $40.00 Craig 18 is about it. If he wants the same taste he'll have to buy the same whisky.

I feel like the S-W profile is not necessarily what OP is after - the only flavor element he mentioned was the woodiness. More clarification Borchard?

I'd second Vintage 17, but it's also out of production, only a little bit cheaper and a lot more difficult to find than the JPS18 at least around here. Weller 12 is probably the closest thing in the under $40 range.

I'll second the Weller 12 recommendation. That might be the same "sweet" profile you're after as well. My last bottle of Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit was extremely woody.

If you can still find some EC 18, then vatting that with VSOF 12 would get you close.

Ah, the vat trick, I never think of doing that.

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys. I may just be SOL...
Well, how can it not be McCormick's, the $7 well bourbon of the finest dive bars? Tastes like kerosene and sadness.
