I'm surprised to hear this. My local beer crew (myself included) has been quite impressed with this. It manages to touch on all of the aspects of a manhattan with a nice balance between the components. It's a bit boozy which I think is apt for a beer cocktail. They pull it off at least as well as a GOOD Short's beer pulls off PB&J sandwich, Bloody Mary, etc.; I really can't imagine someone creating a better approximation of this cocktail in beer form.

I'll set aside a bottle for the next bourbon tasting to see what others think.

No, pretty confident it's not from last year. It's not uncommon for the seasonal releases to come out earlier/later than the static calender indicates on the brewery websites. In addition, it's not uncommon for me to see bottles without dates on many Founders releases that are distributed in VA. Anyone else notice that?

Re: What beer are you drinking, Spring 2013

Had some people over to kick off spring with a few beers. Of course the weather decides to turn a bit colder after being in the 80's a few days ago but still a pleasant evening.

    Casualties of the evening included:

21st Amendment Monks Blood Strong Dark Ale
    Boulevard Rye-on-Rye Rye Beer
Bruery Smoking Wood Rye Barrel Aged Smoked Beer
Brew Dog Paradox Isle of Arran Stout finished in Arran whisky casks
    Crabbie’s Alcoholic Ginger Beer
De Dochter van de Korenaar Finesse Tripel
Harviestoun Ola Dubh Special Reserve 18 Old Ale finished in HP 18yo whisky casks
    Heavy Seas Smoked Porter
J.W. Lees Harvest Ale Port Cask 2005
J.W. Lees Harvest Ale Calvados Cask 2006
J.W. Lees Harvest Ale Sherry Cask 2011
    Jailhouse Brewing Slammer Wheat
    Jailhouse Brewing Mugshot IPA
    Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale
    Samichlaus Doppelbock Bier
Sweetwater 16th Anniversary Red Wheat Wine Ale
Terrapin Side Project Volume 18, Liquid Bliss Porter
Trappistes Rochefort 8 Belgian Strong Dark Ale

    Beers drunk at beer party.jpeg

The magnum of Trappistes Rochefort 8 served as a delightful opening beer followed by a mix of some local brews and odds and ends. The Boulevard Rye-on-Rye, Bruery Smoking Wood Rye, Samichlaus and the three J.W. Lees Harvest Ales were particularly tasty and well worth getting more if I can find them again. But odds are that will be tough.
That yella whiskey runnin' down my throat like honey dew vine water and I took another slash…

    Lucky man.
I'm 120 miles from their brewery and it's not available here yet.
Have you spotted any for their Doom?
It's Double Trouble aged in bourbon barrels for four months.

BTW, in keeping with the thread's question.
Last night I had a few.
Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout & Centennial, Arcadia Hop Rocket and Goose Island IPA.

Double trouble is out here in KY. Released early. Not sure if its Founders fault for sending early or distributors fault for releasing it early.

I'm on the prowl for Doom down here. No sightings yet.

Had a single bottle of Hopzilla. Not bad but the not in my wheelhouse. Sure is nice to be able to buy singles at times.

I believe that Doom release date is tomorrow (4-22). I've seen where brewers release their product early and then embargo it to a set date. I wonder how good retailers are at following along with the game plan.

I'm going to ask my guy on Tuesday.

Lagunitas Sucks and now onto a KBS,both great and I wish they were both more readily available and year round.I am a bit of an oddball and I could drink stouts year round. There is just something about them that is soothing and always seems to fall into my wheelhouse no matter what time of year.
