Old Grandad BIB mashbill?

Hello all.

My first post on this board. I look forward to chiming in when and where I can.

Picked up a bottle of the 100 proof Old Grandad Bottled in Bond today at lunch. I know it has a mashbill tilted more towards rye, and was wondering whether anyone had any particulars. I searched the forums prior to posting, to no avail.

I only found a mashbill for the 86 proof, but they very well may be the same, just the 86 is more diluted. The mashbill for the 86 proof is 63% corn, 27% rye and 10% malted barley.

Thanks for the super-fast response! I'll crack it tonight (swanky orange plastic cap on that one) and post a note tomorrow. It will be interesting for me to try a bourbon with that much rye in it.

Search engines are unforgiving. Had you searched for "old grand dad", instead, you might well have found the same post that Mark did.

On a whim I did a Google search. I didn't find confirmation regarding the mashbill, but I did find this, which may be of interest. It may even be true.

Thanks for the information and the link. A misspelling in my first post - excellent (and merely a hint at what is to come - sorry).

My only excuses are that I dropped the bottle off at home before I posted, and the search I ran for "Old Grandad" turned up quite a few hits. In retrospect not as many as I would have expected.

Ah well, that's me - always learning something new, or something I thought I knew.

Don't worry; most folks hereabouts don't give a rodent's rump about spelling. (And that's when we're not drinking. )

As proof, I cite the fact that a search on "old grandad" yields dozens of hits. IOW, you are certainly not the first to use that inventive spelling.

Good to know. I won't link you to the 42 reply thread on one of the wine boards I frequent regarding the impact vel non of using umlauts (probably spelled incorrectly) and other German spelling markers on the efficacy of the sites search engine. Now THAT is enough to "encourage" someone to drink more bourbon!
