Nice pour of Ardbeg 10yr to change things up. Smokey/peaty awesomeness!

This afternoon I tried out the Chieftain's Caol Ila 17yo. Fairly soft initially with a touch of sweetness/fruit. Followed by what seemed to be a nice balance of light brine and peat without either being particularly overwhelming. Overall seems like a nice bottle with no one overwhelming characteristic.

Not had much luck learning what sort of barrels it was aged in. Doesn't seem likely it was first fill barrels though!
That yella whiskey runnin' down my throat like honey dew vine water and I took another slash…

Maybe not a barrel, could've been a hogshead.

Back into my new bottle of Black Bottle

Maybe not as deep as I first thought, but still a great value pour and probably a really good entry level Islay. Nicely put together with not too much of anything overpowering you but enough of the classic smoke and peat to provide what you're looking for.

When I first got into Scotch my buddy steered me to Bowmore Legend as a good cheap intro to the style. It certainly didn't push me away, but it was a bit heavy on the iodine if I remember and a bit raw. I'd much rather have had this and then probably gone to Ardbeg Ten or something like that.

I've heard it's not the whisky it used to be a few years ago, but as it stands I'd say it'd be hard to beat for the price and I wouldn't hesitate to pick it up again.

It's not what it was but what is, still don't mind recommending it though.

1968 25 yr Glendronach. Heavily sherried without being full of sulfur. Best example of this distillery I have ever tasted.

Makes me wish I'd have picked up a few of the 1972's GD released these past few years

Last night I enjoyed a pour of Black Bottle. Then I jumped over to the Emerald Isle, and had a pour of Redbreast 12.
