After an hour or so with it, I would have to agree. This was a very good buy for me!

Contemplated buying a bottle of Glenmorangie The Quinta Ruban but ultimately ended up with my old favorite, Laphroaig 10yr.

Enjoyed my bottle so far and debating adding another. Haven't pulled the trigger yet though.

Picked up a Caol Ila Stitchell Reserve thanks to a heads up from one SBer and the delivery to me by another from out of state. Would be surprised if I see this locally. A NAS unpeated Caol Ila presumably picked by Billy Stitchell who is retiring after 40 years. NAS was a bit disappointing but it is cask strength at 119.2 proof. Supposedly matured in a combination of American oak, rejuvenated American oak and European ex-bodega casks (sherry I presume?).

Good stuff. I hope you enjoy it. Makes for a nice dessert or bedtime whisky.

Cracked open the Phoenix today. Initially, even after bringing on the water, I found it leaning heavily to the alcohol & bitter side...hard to pick up the expected flavors on the nose & mouthfeel. However, added about another teaspoon and let it sit in the glass for a while. Upon my return, found a much better nose & taste with the expected sherry, vanilla & creamy notes. Of course, it is CS @ 55 proof, so, I likely just did not give it quite enough water + time in the glass with some air. I have a much harder time with the Irish than Scotch in terms of getting the water level right. Overall, I would say I like it a lot and the longer it sits in that glass the better it is getting. In comparison with Redbreast CS, I don't think it quite measures up. Maybe after a few more drams, it will inch closer.
