My brother-in-law got me a bottle of Glenmo 18 for Christmas. Looking forward to this one.

Ardbeg 10 has become my favorite cold-weather grilling pour. My bottle was getting a little low due to all the grilling/smoking I did for Christmas, but Santa came through with an Ardbeg 10 gift pack w/glass! I'm ready for New Year's Eve/Day.

Finally getting around to showing some recent arrivals to my place. There are a few more that did not make the pic as well, but these are the fun ones. Most of these are thanks to fellow SBers who helped with either obtaining them or pointing me in the right direction.

Longrow Rundlets & Kilderkins arrived today and picked up another JW Green Label for good measure.

Stopped in a nearby store in Honolulu and not surprisingly given the local Japanese influence saw more Japanese whiskey than was typically available at home. But don't know enough about them to know if they are worth trying or how much the "island" tax is!

akso no idea how to turn it around using only my phone.

Tax on Oahu is about 4.7%. Maybe chainwhip can sound off and help you decide what is good.

Unfortunately it's the nature of Japanese whiskys to be higher than average cost. They're good, no question about quality, but they are after copies of Scottish whiskys and at those prices I'd rather have the original.

Squire is correct in that Japanese whisky prices tend to be a little higher... But the prices aren't that bad actually (better than WA state) B. If that's a "1" for the first digit on that Taketsuru 21, I'd get that one (4.7% tax is pretty sweet IMO) - it's a vatted malt and is intended to compete head-to-head against the Hibiki 21 (I actually prefer it to the Hibiki 21). I'm actually a fan of the Yoichi line as it is peated (if lightly compared to the Islay monsters) and Nikka has taken great pains to utilize the most traditional Scottish techniques (even to the point of using coal-fired stills) at that distillery.

Sorry, didn't mean the actual tax but how much more it is because it is in Hawaii, rather like gas and milk! But perhaps some gets dropped off on the way to the mainland and so it isn't as much as other things are.
