I'll answer my own question because tonight I had opportunity to taste this. I would say it is more like a whiskey than a rum. It is on the sweet side, maybe along the lines of a good bottle of Elmer T Lee. The nose is very nice, but the finish is typically of small barrel craft distilled products with dry and astringent notes. Still a very solid product that I would place on higher end of all the craft distilled products that I have tried.
