Chuck's recent blog (http://chuckcowdery.blogspot.com/201...-whiskeys.html ) got me wondering where do the NDP's get their whiskey? Anyone have changes/fixes to this list?

Re: Where do NDP's get their whiskey

This will be tough to do as there are so many, and many we don't know about. Also, the "sells to" category is a bit misleading as it doesn't always work that way. Often times, the transaction isn't direct. For instance, High West has used Barton but I don't believe they bought any of it directly from the distillery. And of course, KBD has whiskey from all over the place.

And for the record, here's my (likely incomplete) list of labels that have used LDI/MGPI whiskey:

    4 Spirits Bourbon (4 Spirits)
    Angels' Envy Rye
    Backbone Bourbon (Crossroads Vitners/Strong Spirits)
    Big Ass Bourbon (Strong Spirits)
    Big Bottom Bourbon (Big Bottom)
    Bone Snapper Rye (Strong Spirits)
    Bulleit Rye (Diageo)
Chattanooga Whiskey 1816 Reserve (Chattanooga Whiskey Co.)
    Cougar Bourbon & Rye (Foster's)
Filibuster Bourbon & Rye (M.S. Trading LP)
    George Dickel Rye (George Dickel)
High Liquors Bourbon & Rye (High Liquors)
High West (an an element of many of their whiskeys blends)
    Homestead Bourbon
    J. Green Bourbon and Rye (Shadow Beverage Group)
    James E. Pepper 1776 Rye (James E. Pepper/Strong Spirits)
Redemption Bourbon & Rye (Dynamic Beverages)
    Riverboat Rye (Dynamic Beverages)
    Seagram's 7 Blended Whiskey (Diageo)
Smooth Ambler Old Scout Bourbon & Rye (Smooth Ambler)
    Spring Mill Bourbon (Heartland Distillers)
    Templeton Rye (Templeton)
    Temptation Bourbon (Dynamic Beverages)
    WH Harrison Bourbon (Tipton Spirits)
    Willett Rye (younger Indiana ryes)

Re: Where do NDP's get their whiskey

This is a good thread but cannot be accurate until the NDPs reveal their sources. I have a simpler sorting method based on price. I frankly give less than a damn who made the whisky if it tastes good and is worth what I paid. If Willet would sell me a 6 year old 100 proof Bourbon for $11.95 I might buy it but if they want $44.95 I will buy four bottles of HH BIB instead.

    A few more LDI/MGPI:

Bourbon Brothers Whiskey (Shadow Beverage Group)
    Breaker Bourbon Whiskey (Ascendant Spirits)
Ceran St. Vrain's Taos Lightning Straight Rye Whiskey (KGB Spirits)
Clarion Gold and Platinum Ultra-Premium Blended Bourbon Whiskey (Distilled Spirits Epicenter)
Corn Star Corn Whiskey (Strong Spirits)
    Hooker's House Bourbon (Prohibition Spirits)
    Hooker's House Rye (Prohibition Spirits)
New Holland Beer Barrel Bourbon (New Holland Brewing Co)
American Prairie Reserve (High West. combination of LDI and Four Roses)
    Whiskey Trails (High Spirits Importing)

Has anybody tried the corn star from strong? LDI corn I have yet to taste.

This might be off topic for this thread, but as a new person to bourbon, would it be safe to stay away from these so called "mystery" bourbons? At least in the beginning anyways, while I get more familiar with the nuances, flavor profiles, etc.

Not necessarily. Just find a decent one and dive in. NDP doesn't equal bad.

Variable I wouldn't stay away just because they are mystery whiskies (in the nondisclosure sense) if they are priced reasonably, but I refuse to pay a premium for a fancy bottle with an even more fanciable description.

Josh, my notes have Traverse City sourcing its whiskey from Ugly Dog Distillery, but they expect to have their own product sometime in 2013. Do you have a link to MGPI as their source instead?
