Re: What Bourbon Did You Purchase Today? Summer 2013

In the quest to find the elusive ECBP, I came up empty. All I saw was the empty space on the shelf where it should have been. But the place had a huge sale and I came out with bottles of FR Single Barrel, ER10 and Buffalo Trace for a pittance. So all was not lost.

Good Bourbon for a pittance is always a gain.

I fully agree. I'm quite pleased with the consolation prize.

I've moved on, found a bunch of other value bourbons i hadn't tried yet. If it comes back to being stocked on the shelf...awesome...if not, plenty of other choices. Zero sum game in a sense.

yeah, thats kind of the conclusion i have come to as well. i have a stockpile of KC 120, and my current favorite....OGD114, is as close as any decent sized liquor store. so as happy as id be to get my hands on some, its not worth the aggravation of trying to track down a bottle of alcohol.

a number of guys on here have been generous enough to offer to ship me a bottle. I am a bit leary of shipping alcohol across state lines though.....but the offer alone is nice enough. there are quite a bit of good people on this site!

on a side note.....ive only been into bourbon for about a year or so. i live in louisville, and despite being in bourbon central, i not only have never seen any ECBP, ive also never seen any PHC, Stagg, etc....I assume a lot of these upper level offerings are seasonal? maybe large chain stores are not the places to be looking? ive also tried lots of small mom&pop stores too, but they seem to have just the everyday stuff, $40 range and under. maybe I need to be schooled on how to shop for this stuff?

All those things are seasonal, and they all sell out quickly everywhere. Best bet is to get in the good graces of a good store.

Also, I gotta say... There is a TON of surreptitious interstate shipping of liquor going on. Just go look at BX. Take one of those generous folks up on their offer.

Tons of oldies I mentioned elsewhere, but I also grabbed a WT Rare Breed, batch '99, for a solid price of $25, no tax

A really solid pour too. A barrel proofer with 12, 8, and 6yr. whiskey. One of my favorite dusties.
I've never tried GTS with any sort of soda. Maybe I'm missing out; but I'm OK with that.

Yup, that was a solid move on his part - I'm always good to see SB members get hooked up by others in here.
