Re: What's your favorite BIB and why?

ive tried about a half dozen BIBs so far, and if someone wanted to give me just ONE, i think i would go with the EW BIB myself. its just a teeeeeeeny bit better than the HH 6 year white though.

I plan to polish off the rest of my EW BIB tomorrow, as we are having a spicy chicken fry and games night with a dozen people coming over, and one of them is a big EW black fan. I bet he will finish it off himself, if i dont keep an eye on him. i want one more shot before its gone to see what i think about it again, as its been a few weeks since I had any.

I mentioned JTS Brown. I can't talk about bonds without bringing up that one. Given that all the HH bonds (except for Old Fitz) are the same mash bill, I wonder how JTS turns out noticeably different? I suppose it could be aged in a different location from the others, maybe barrel selection, or both. When I first saw it in a store years ago, I was afraid to try it because of the low bottom shelf price. Then after I tried it, I wondered if they had put the wrong price, or it was some kind of close out. Ignore the price. It's a really solid pour. I would easily prefer it to many more popular and expensive whiskies.

I would call the HH BIBs variations on a theme as we did find slight differences in blind tastings over the years, specifically between HH 6 yr, EWW, JTS Brown and Dant.

You know, I may have to take back this comment. Since I recently tried (and really enjoyed) a Dant BIB, which is a sibling of EW BIB, I picked up another bottle of EW BIB. MUCH better than the older one I had...must have been an off bottle as it had a couple of unpleasant traces of something that I did not care for.

Now I can't decide which is better, EW or Dant BIB. I can get Dant cheaper around here. The Dant has a superior cotton candy nose which is very cool. The EW might be a touch better integrated, but not by much. Anyone ever do a head-to-head of these two?

Yes, several times over the years, I would buy whichever one is cheaper in your area.

Dant or JTS Brown for me. Heaven Hill is king for BiB in my opinion. I could easily pick Virgin as the best value for BiB, but I've only drank two bottles so it's still.. virgin territory.

I only have two BiBs available in AZ (to my knowledge)... OGD and Old Fitz.

Of the two, I'll take OGD.

We do have Ritt Rye BiB... haven't tried that yet.

Fats ordered some "White Horse" whisky in the book but in the movie the name was changed to "White Tavern".
