Re: 5 that are ALWAYS in your rotation

I have several 5 bourbon rotations (all subject to change depending on my mood and taste...tic):

    My <$30/handle rotation:

    -VOB90
    -OC10 (until it runs out)
    -EWBlack

My Everybody thinks you should have rotation:
    -MM
    -WT
    -KC
    -WR
    -JBB

My Pre- Govt Warning Dusty Rotation (those I have a fair supply of):
-OGD - BIB or 86 or both
    -Ezra Brooks
    -Benchmark
    -Old Taylor 86 proof
    -Rebel Yell

My Favorites Rotation (only special friends get to try these):

Re: 5 that are ALWAYS in your rotation

    ETL
    FRSB
    OF Signature
    SB Blend/OWA
    Rittenhouse 100

I like to have a very wide variety to choose from (I have not had less than 40 bottles open since I was in college), but I recently realized that at any point I would be completely satified by one of the first three on my list. I usually have better versions of all three of those, but I would never be dissatified if those were the only three I had.

Re: 5 that are ALWAYS in your rotation

i rarely have more than a few open. i just dont want 100 bottles of stuff lying around.

I currently have about 5, but the 4RSiB i dont care for and am giving to a friend who loves it, and the ECBP i was dying for and learned promptly that i find it horrid, is going to the gazebo for people who actually do like it. and i just polished off a HH BIB gold last night, so i am down to just two open again.......a HH BIB white and a KC120, and im just fine with that. Although i do expect to try some new stuff on saturday at the gazebo and pick up a few replacements to try at home.

Re: 5 that are ALWAYS in your rotation

    RIT BIB
    OGD 114
    OWA or Weller 12
    Baker's
    Lot B
    BOTM

Notes: I can count to five, but that last one is so variable, depending on what Joe tells me to try this month. And the Lot B won't always be ALWAYS--a few years ago I stumbled into a store with a fresh load of Lot B, brought one home and it curled my toes, so went back and stocked up. When I kill one, I open another, but stock is getting low. Lately Larceny has supplanted the Wellers because of those great rebates. I hope the marketing guys don't study this thread too closely--those at the top of my list are on so many others' that I fear some genius might decide they are underpriced.

Looking in the cabinet I think it's pretty safe to say that no matter what I'll have:

    Ritt BIB
    A W.L. Weller bourbon
    A Heaven Hill bourbon BIB
    A barrel proof Four Roses
    An ECBP

Open at any time for the foreseeable future.

Re: 5 that are ALWAYS in your rotation

I'm still too much into that "new to bourbon" phase where I don't have favorites yet. I started off heavy into scotch and while it, and Irish, are still my favorites I've started to get into bourbons more and more lately. The funny part is I went on a buying spree and just love getting rare or nice (ie overpriced) bourbons, I'm only now starting to discover the cheaper labels. For example, I've never even tried Old Forester, any Weller, Grand Dad, Wild Turkey, Rittenhouse etc... but I have Jefferson PS 17 year, winkle 10, 12, 15, 20, three BTACs (2 GTS, 1 THH), and various other "nice" bourbons sitting in my closet.

Thankfully I'm getting my priorities straight and have started to try other brands. I recently started making sazeracs with Old Overholdt Rye and opened my bottle of blue state bourbon (heaven hills) and have been enjoying that. It's amazing, you can actually enjoy good bottles for under $20. Now if only scotch were that cheap...

    BTW, current opened bourbon/ryes are:

    GTS
    Winkle 12
    Kirkland
    John J Bowman
    Blue State
    Old Overholdt
JB White (for marinades and mixers)
    JD Black

I could see Kirkland staying as part of my rotation for availability and generally decent taste

    I always have open:

    - SB Blend Weller (my recent vattings consist of 2 x 750 Well 12 + 1 x 1.75 OWA)
    - either Bulleit or Ritt ryes
    - a FRSB of some sort. Currently, the standard issue poured into my Secretariat 'decanter'
    - OGD BIB/114
    - something from the EHT line, currently it's the Tornado

I could have written this post word for word.
