    Hello from SE Michigan

I joined this site a few weeks ago and have been enjoying all the information on this site! Some really great posts from some knowledgeable people.

Most of my drinking enjoyment has been in the beer category with virtually no hard liquors. My brother introduced me to Scotch and I thought I could enjoy that, but a coworker saved me from going that direction and put me into the wide flavors of bourbon. I've only been imbibing for a little over a month and am wondering how I missed out all these years!

Of the small group of bourbons I've tried, Elijah Craig 12 Year is one I always enjoy with my favorite being Wild Turkey Rare Breed. I have to be in the right mood to enjoy the bird though. I find it a bit challenging at times. I prefer to drink my bourbon neat, but an ice cube has saved the evening on those days when it just doesn't hit right.

Again, thanks for all the great posts.

Welcome! Contrary to this area's rep as CC country, we have a very strong Michigan contingent of bourbon lovers! On a related note, there's a get together at my place in Royal Oak on Aug 24, check The Bourbon Social subforum for details. It would be great if you could come!

Welcome from a downriver native (but currently a Georgia resident)! With Wild Turkey Rare Breed, is it the bite? Or the higher proof? I'd recommend trying some Old Weller Antique 107 just to throw a wheater in the mix Look forward to your posts - the journey is a blast!

Josh: Thanks for the invite! Didn't expect that for a total newcomer. Unfortunately my wife and I have a prior commitment. Otherwise, it sounds like a fun way to have some relaxed discussions about bourbon.

darylld911: I do really like the RB, it is just that some nights I'm not in mood for the pepper and spice (I assume that comes from the rye and being barrel proof). I have wanted to try a good wheat. Makers Mark didn't do anything for me, but I know there are more interesting ones out there. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look for it.

Everyone else, thanks for the welcome!
