    Town Branch wins SIP awards

I had a Kentucky Ale in the L'ville airport on my way home from Sampler and it was a big letdown. I'm sure the bourbon barrel aged one is better but I would definitely have preferred a West 6th IPA.

My favorite of the bunch finished last. And to think that B-F paid $400 per entry.
Wow - I'm in the same boat. ET354 was one I had high hopes for but was disappointed in, and to have that above WR or OFS? Obviously my palate differs from their judges

Most spirits awards are BS, some are outright bought. It's shameless.

Town Branch is pretty horrid stuff. They are trying to use Scotch stills to produce American Whiskey and the result is horrid. The distillery is beautiful but it's more for show than function. When I was there they had a fermenter that had been sitting for WEEKS. One of the most disgusting things I've ever seen at a distillery:

Maybe they're planning an accidental bottling? Hey if WT can charge $50 why not.

I believe Woodford is using and makes a big deal out of their Scottish stills. Perhaps the stills are not the issue.

Woodford is mostly Old Forester, off a column still.

Woodford uses a modified pot still of their own design that runs continuously like a column still. I've no doubt very good Bourbon style whisky can be made in a pot still but, then again I could also get to work in a rebuilt Model T.

Except for the Woodford Masters Collections, right? Of course they have generally been a disappointment although that could be as much from the fixation with various finishes as anything else. Seems like a nicely aged straight Woodford distilled product would be interesting to try.

Seems to be some appreciation for pot still whiskey. After all isn't that what the "legendary" AH Hirsch is?

And why "scottish" stills. Isn't a pot still a pot still pretty much? Certainly have them in Ireland too!

It's said the Irish taught the Scots how to distill so perhaps they should claim the pot heritage as well. Michter's whisky was made in a standard column still then run through a pot shaped doubler. The small pot still on the label was made for the tourists in 1976 and the young, weak whisky it produced was sold at the gift shop not making it's way into the regular line.
