So far, I've pretty much been stuck with what's at the local ABC and Sam's Club. I saw some Four Roses at the ABC that I am very interested in, so that is definitely on the list.

Boy how wrong I was! To me some the finest Bourbons I've tried to date have been the bottom to middle shelf brands.

    Welcome and enjoy your journey.
One of the things I really appreciate about bourbon is the price is SO much better than Scotch. And since I like the taste of bourbon better anyway, it's made it more fun. I can't believe the price of even the 'lower' shelf Scotch (like the 12 year old Macallan). It's good, but it ain't THAT good (at least for my own personal taste). I think I'll keep some Scotch and Irish whiskey in the bar and stay acquainted with it, but I am loving the bourbon. So I am going to concentrate on the bourbon (go USA!).

And, at least at this point - being a noob whiskey drinker - I'm not going to try and over think it too much. I'm just going to enjoy learning about the different bourbons and like what I like. So far - this has been a lot of fun. I drink it 'neat' because I simply don't want to mix it with anything (I'm not a bartender) and I don't want to mess up good whiskey with ice from inferior water, etc. I figure if I can't enjoy the whiskey for what it is, I should probably stick to Coke Zero or something.

And it's also been fun that one of my kids is starting to enjoy whiskey as well. We can compare notes as we learn about what we like and stuff.

And this web site has already been gold as I look back at the 'Bourbon of the Month' and read reviews on some of the whiskeys I've been interested in - or have already consumed.

    Good stuff.

I am having fun. And even the wife (who is a teetotaler - never had a drop of alcohol in her life) is supporting my new hobby (I think she likes collecting the empty bottles ).

So I am going to take my time, try a bunch of different bourbons, and enjoy the heck out of it.

    Dawg,
You must try some Tennesee whiskey as well and I highly reccomend the GD12 over JD7.

Also some rye and the WTR101 is fantastic if you can find it.

Figured as much, Florida is a wasteland for Barton though ABC does carry the 80 proof Ten High, a Barton product.

A word of caution though, if you wish to journey in a dignified manner stay away from that bunch that hang around a certain gathering spot in Tallahassee. They're hard core Bourbon Geeks who travel the fast lane, Hell, they even drive up to the Motherland to pick out their own barrels.
We're Bourbon Geeks, it's who we are, it's what we do.
