I found the forum researching various bourbons and whatnot, and decided it seemed like a nice forum to join. So I did.
I am not a long time drinker of whiskey, but I have become a fast learner and taster! LOL! My wife actually had a head start, as she has been a scotch drinker for a long while. I had previously sunk my attention into beers (German variants) and Tequila.
However, a trip to Louisville (My wife's parents live there, however, my wife has never lived there) a while back piqued my interest in bourbon. We visited two distilleries (Barton & HH) and after that I was hooked. The Barton tour was amazing (at least when we did it), as they showed practically every single aspect to making the their bourbon. From the water works all the way to the bottling. It was crazy comprehensive. Things like that just feeds my need to learn more. So I became a bourbon drinker pretty much from that day on.
From my point of view, living in Vegas is both a blessing and a curse when it comes to bourbon. Though I have been able to try many so-called top end variants at the restaurants littered in the casino properties, the shelves very rarely see anything, what I would consider, out of the ordinary. Not that there isn't nice bourbon in the local stores, just not those holy grail types. The liquor stores claim to be getting such stock in, however, who it goes to, I do not know, other than it is not me. I think the casino beverage departments probably have a lock on those types of bourbon. However, that is just speculation on my part.
The wife and I just returned from Louisville a few weeks ago, and brought home something like 15 bottles. Some hard to find stuff, some hard to find in Las Vegas stuff. Nothing that we brought back is something that I have seen on the shelves here. So I guess we are stocked for a little while at least. LOL!
I am rambling now. Sorry. If anyone ever has any questions regarding Vegas, I may not be able to give you a definitive answer, however, we have lived here like 9 years now. We have eaten in practically the entire range of restaurants here from super high end fine dining to off strip hole in the wall dives. We LOVE food, drink and, well, shopping. So basically we have opinions on most of the properties, whether correct or not ... LOL!
See ... rambling.
