Ancient Ancient Age 10 year....too polite?

    Hey all,

I'm back from the trail in Kentucky where I finally acquired a handle of AAA 10 year. It's just been open for 2 days now but I'm finding it rather bland, lacking complexity..if anything, the (long, pleasant) aftertaste exceeds the actual drinking. I'm a bit disappointed, maybe a little time now that it's uncorked will help it open up.

Also, what everyone hear says is true; the hard hat tour at BT is great,(thanks Fred) and be sure to stop at Rick's Lighthouse cafe for an oyster po' boy with fried banana peppers!

I just opened my first AAA 10 as well. I personally like it. It's very mellow and an easy summer time sipper. Plus it mixes well with some Ale8. I would take it any day over this KC SB I just finished.

I love AAA10, especially in the summer and especially for the price. I don't think it's ever been overly complex to me, just a darn good sipper with some good age on it for a screaming price. That being said, I do miss the TPS bottlings of it, they had a couple real stand outs in my opinion.

You could be getting thrown off by its 86 proof if your used to drinking higher proofs. Easy for that to happen.

I like the AAA 10 yr well enough, but think Thad is right about the proof. In some blind SBS, I picked the AAA 10 Star more often than not, and I wonder if those 4 extra proof points aren't what pushes that.

I like the AAA 10yr at 86 pf - at a higher proof I think this would be a scorching wood bomb on the finish.

AAA10yr is probably the most flavorful 86 proof bourbon you can find.

Try Rock Hill Farms. Same mashbill but 100 proof. One of my favorites.

I do like RHF - but think they're putting a premium on it for the purty bottle If it was $35, I'd be all over it.

I've got to fully agree and one that is always on my hit list when headed to KY,for $17 it's a no brainer to me.
