Just joined - from Madison, Wisconsin

Hey all. I've been reading these forums for a couple of months now and decided I should join. I've been drinking whiskey for most of my adult life, but was primarily a Jack on the rocks kind of guy. Started getting more serious about investigating bourbons a couple of years ago, did the Kentucky Bourbon Trail this spring with some buddies, and now I'm hooked. Still refining my taste buds and checking out new stuff, but this board has been a great source of info. Unfortunately not everything I've seen mentioned is available here in America's Dairyland, although I can find a decent selection at a couple of places. Any other Wisconsinites lurking around here?

Welcome! UW-Madison is my alma mater, though I no longer reside in that city. It's quite a beautiful place but unfortunately the only time I ever seem to make it back is when a college friend that stuck around gets married.

    Welcome, fellow Cheesehead.

Actually, except for various Heaven Hill labels(The ones labeled Heaven Hill, not simply products from HH), we have access to most Bourbon. Wisconsin is actually better than most, as far as availability goes.

All the FR, all the WT, most HH products, most BT products, all JB, all B-F, all KBD, Barton 86pr is now here... This is a great state to be a Bourbon lover.

Now if only we can stop those F.I.B.s from hunting our dusties...

And in Madison, I would recommend Steve's in Fitchburg, and Riley's as being good Bourbon locations. (At Riley's, you have to walk upstairs to see the entire selection.)

Thanks for the kind welcome, everyone. White Dog, you're right, I can find a lot of variety, but have to hunt a bit sometimes. For example, I've seen many on these boards extolling the virtues of VOB, yet I can't recall seeing that around. Fighting Cock? A few bottles might pop up somewhere, but not for long. I don't see many Four Roses offerings. Just had my first sip of Old Forester the other day. Never seen a Pappy's or a Stagg that I can recall. Picked up a Rock Hill Farms, really liked it, then it was gone. But you're right, Steve's has a good selection, as does Riley's (just learned of their upstairs stash) and Woodmans is actually very good as well.

Welcome, Tony! Glad to see another Wisconsinite on the boards.

I will echo White Dog's comments, but will point out that WI is typically behind the curve in terms of availability. Many states have newer release bottles months ahead of WI. However, prices are typically lower, which helps offset the wait. Cheers!

Nice to have you here Tony. I'm not from Madison, but an hour south of you, just across the cheddar curtain into Illinois.

If this means what I think it means, I'm one of those guys . (however, I am a Packer fan so hopefully you'll cut me some slack).

You're close enough to Chicago that the next time we have a get together at Binny's I hope you'll consider coming. It would be a great way to meet a bunch of fellow SB'ers and experience the "magic shopping carts" of whiskey
