I opened this Flora & Fauna Mortlach 16 tonight. While not a knockdown stunner like the K&L Mortlach 22, it comes in at a third of the price and is very good. It has a nice sherry quality to it and that distinctive Mortlach flavor, which I have come to adore. My only knock against this Flora & Fauna is that it could have been slightly higher proof as it seems just a touch thin (though I have been drinking natural cask strength stuff as of late and Yamazaki 18 now strikes me as thin also). With this available in Europe (though quantities seem limited), I am not sure how Macallan sells anything.

Sipping from a sample bottle of Rare Malts St. Magdalene 19 / 1979 63.8% - this one is a doozy... Thick, viscous, flinty sweet fruity goodness!

I can sit with a small pour this one all night.

It's disappointing we have to make an effort to get Mortlach, apparently it's value as a blending malt outweighs the potential profit from just another single label.

I think the thin mouthfeel might be the Mortlach house style - even the K&L 22 CS (which is outstanding by the way) was a little thin compared to a comparable Glendronach to me.

But like Squire, I would like to see more of it readily available.

Some cool stuff here. I should stop in more often. Just worked 58 hours in 4 days and am quite burned out, but happy to be off tomorrow. I had some 4R 125th w/ a small late dinner, but decided to go with some single malt to watch more of Breaking Bad Season 4. Johnny, how far are you? After this I plan on moving on to Macallan Cask Strength.

Just nosing it brings back good memories. And so much milder than Bourbon. Sipping it from a Glencairn. This reminds me why I love Scotch. Might even get into the Loki later.
