Yes, the most well known Tennessee whisky is Jack Daniels which was 90 proof, then lowered to 86, now it's 80. The various specialty bottlings of Jack are higher proof but the standard product (the World's largest volume selling whisky) is 80.

Dickel has remained stead fast keeping their No. 12 brand at 90 proof.

GD12 was better than JD when it was 90. JD is all about the brand, GD12 is all about the whisky.

Probably my favorite to visit. Others are more entertaining or informative but nestled in the little valley by the Cascade stream Dickel is my minds eye view of a distillery.

I ended up pouring a vertical - Old Scout 10 year TPS private barrel #363, VOS 14, and VOS 19. There was a noticeable family resemblance between the three.

I thought the 19 wore its age very well, not over-oaked although the age was evident. For me, the winner of these three was the 14 year. Still a great amount of oak presence but a little sweeter than the 19.

After getting home last night from a 3 day weekend in the New Orleans area, I had a couple of good sized pours of VOB86. I have to make this a much more regular pour. Every single time I have a pour of this, I am in awe of how amazing it taste. So much flavor and and all the flavor elements just present itself so readily as soon as you take a sip. Come to think of it...it's like the feeling of putting cotton candy in your mouth. I also enjoy the finish very much!
