I've been to Barton a few times and they've always poured VOB86 and 1792 for the tasting. Each time I was surprised at how much better I thought the 86 was compared to the 1792.

Tonight I'm having the last pour of a WT Tradition. Outstanding whiskey

sipping on some WFE's tonight. First an 11yr at 59% and change with lots of sweet fig and now on an 8yr wheated at like 65% that I haven't enjoyed off the bat, but like more as it opens up.

Yes, a three year old company selling 4-6 year old whisky is sourcing their product, that and their mash bill matches one of MGPs standards. Nothing wrong with that so long as they don't over price it.

I notice some NDPs say they will be replacing the sourced product with their own make eventually. I wonder if they will change the brand name as well since the whisky will taste different.

Re: What bourbon are you drinking - Fall 2013

On vacation for the week, so I've been having pours that are new to me. Yesterday I had: Blanton's, Booker's, Smooth Ambler Old Scout. The Booker's was my favorite. Gave it a little bit of air time, then tried it neat. After doing that I put a few drops of water to open it up and really liked what I had. To me, the finish wasn't as long as I had hoped, but still tasty nonetheless. Have to say that the Blanton's was a little too easy of a drinker for me. I was kind of indifferent to the Old Scout. For the price of Blanton's, I'll probably take 4R1B most of the time.
