One way to test the integrity of the store is politely point out the whisky is not actually 15 years old and see if they take the sign down.

Nope... same as regular bottle, just with a state of Virginia sticker on it with the barrel number. I asked a guy today and he said he thought it was basically the same thing. A friend bought a bottle and said he though the single barrel was discernibly better. I trust his opinion over the ABC guys, but still leery about Jefferson.

Has anyone else noticed the CEHT's have migrated to the glass cases and are now being touted as and priced as equivalents to BTAC/Van Winkle? Happening here left and right for example saw the rye at $129.99. As I gather, the distributors are now giving these out as consolation prizes to their accounts who get little or none of the others and "suggesting" that these are just as desirable and coveted by the public.

Yep. Seen that. I just laughed. $129.99 for all iterations of CEHT. That's what I thought too. Consolation prizes. Geez. C'mon people.

Not really a pass but when I swung by a shop to pick up a WLW I asked if he could give me a stagg too and he said "one bottle per person, and that's being generous" I was like....

Not around these parts...yet. Nothing surprises me anymore in terms of what some of those guys will attempt. So far, I've not seen any of them over $75.99 which is about where they were this time last year. I keep saying I'm going to give the rye a chance but talk myself into other things with more bang for the buck. If not careful, I'll commit the EC18 sin again....keep waiting until it's no longer on a shelf.

Next year they'll probably make you split a bottle with another customer. Maybe cut it in half?

There are polite ways to say I'm taking my generous money elsewhere.
