Leopold Bros. Maryland Style Rye. I was really hoping to love this, but it's not doing it for me right off the bat. I'll give it a few more chances before I right it off though.

Moving on to some Ritt100 DSP-354. now that's the stuff.

Would like to hear your thoughts on it so far. Which cylinder isn't hitting?

Re: What rye are you drinking Fall 2013

It's young right on the nose. Gives way to some floral, fruits and hint of cocoa, but just fleeting.(edit: reading old thread on this rye and it seems to eerily match my initial mental notes). What doesn't do it for me is the younger whiskey background to it all.

It's a similar reaction I've had to other younger craft spirits I've had the opportunity to taste, particularly whiskies, like those at Finger Lakes Distilling. Well made, but still maturing. Maybe it's the newness of it, or just that it's different from what I'm used to and what I usually drink, maybe it's the equipment and barrels, I don't know. What I do know is that it's got a lot of flavor and I'll look forward to see if it grows on me and I'll be happy to pour it for anyone interested.

I've found it gets better with some air time... I was initially disappointed with Lot No. 40. But a few months later tasting it side-by-side with some Old Overholt '77, I came to appreciate it.

Re: What rye are you drinking Fall 2013

After working all day on Christmas lights with a few of my car buddies we opened up a bottle of Lot40. A very easy drinking rye, smooth but a rather short finish. I prefer a bolder rye, but I think this will be good for sipping with more junior whiskey drinkers.

Well I do believe Miss Kristy could provide that "real bourbon taste" but I don't think Mrs. TunnelTiger would approve.
