    Evening from the midwest

As an avid beer drinker for years, I've been blaming my brother-in-law for introducing my wife and I to bourbon last summer (2012). Before, we liked good beer and good wine and she liked good scotch. Now, we've added good bourbon to the list! Oh my poor bank account!

But it's been an enjoyable experience so far. We hit a few distilleries on the bourbon trail earlier this year (and plan to hit more in 2014!) and enjoying the various "styles" (for lack of a better word) as we go. We started on our journey with Blanton's and it's stayed our favorite so far. OWA, Four Roses small batch have hit the "Thou Shalt Keep On Hand list" as well with 5-6 other open at any given time.

SB has been a nice resource for reading, glad to get the chance to ask questions and contribute.

    Glad to be here!

Great to have you on the board, Raven!
As to your use of the word; "styles"... Nothing wrong with that descriptive term. Another one could be; "mashbills". But there are so many different things, when added together, make the flavors and aromas we enjoy, (and even love) that a really descriptive term would need to include distillery, barrel-char, age, water?, and probably some others, too.
    So.... 'styles' works.

If you can displace some of that "good" scotch with good bourbon, things might be a wash, or you may even come out ahead!

Welcome aboard. Your wallet is indeed in trouble. But unlike a lot of us your marriage should be safe.

Welcome from across the river! Some good shops and good selection in our area. My past is similar, but no scotch. Been a big fan of craft beer for years, but now that I'm trying more bourbons, the craft beers have taken a bit of a back seat.
