Re: Which Water of Life Did You Purchase Today - Winter 2013/2014

The two A.D. Rattray Cooley cask strength single malts made it yesterday just in time for the St Patty's gathering after all. I did manage to get into the 16yo last night at the gathering which was definitely pretty strong but did accept a bit of water nicely to mellow it out a bit. Will need further evaluation.

I don't think anyone else had the chance to try the Cooley's but not too surprising since there were a fair number or options to choose from!

Also worth noting that the store that shipped them also sent the tubes and the boxes for a couple of other things I ordered in the same package without comment or additional charge! The bottles were removed and packed separately so everything arrived intact but it was nice to get everything included!
That yella whiskey runnin' down my throat like honey dew vine water and I took another slash…

My limited scotch selection needed some sherry, so I grabbed my first Aberlour A'bunadh. Had a sip or two last night and really enjoyed it. I've been eyeing Binny's Signatory Mortlach 1990 for a while now, and after reading some of your thoughts, I'm going to go back and grab one.

Did you taste that Mortlach? The sherry influence is quite subtle. The distillery character is center stage, but its a much more delicate malt than the sherry bombed A'bunadh.

Agreed. You wouldn't know it was a sherried malt unless it said so on the bottle. However, it is quite awesome on its own.

I have not tried it. I've read about Mortlach's "meaty" profile, and I want to try it before they change everything. Thanks for the heads up though.

Some recent acquisitions I have spoiled myself with. Ok, one's not for me.

Big fan of the Tali 175th! The General sure looks interesting but not sure I could pull the trigger even if I got a chance at retail. Glaser is apparently going to be in Atlanta next week but no idea if a taste of the General is a possibility. Not sure I can even go yet!

Glad to hear that about the Tali 175th, I've been meaning to open it but I can't quite seem to get around to it. The General... well I was just lucky I had the cash when it briefly showed up on the shelf. I'm a huge fan of Glaser and what he does with CB, and this stuff sounds right up my alley. Definitely an exception for me, price-wise, but hey you only live once. I'm trying to repeat that to myself to get me to open it - it's not easy! The thought of having a bottle like that open in my cabinet is... intimidating.

Crack The General, give us some notes, and let us live vicariously through you! Would love to try it! Bruce, let me know if you go to the Glaser thing as ESS. Maybe we can convince some other GBS folks to go
