Straight Shine (Distilled and bottled on P.E.I, Canada)

Decided to pick up a bottle of this at my local liquor store. Right now it's only shipped to a few provinces in Canada and is not for sale in the USA.

This is a very clean tasting product. I get a good nose of molasses and sugar cane, But of course with some alcohol. The mouthfeel offers nothing at all but once I begin to swallow you get nice sensation of and sugar cane. It's a very straight forward product but is pretty good for what it is.

The moonshine business on PEI was massive, And was in prohibition the longest of all canadian provinces.

Bringing a novel product like Shine to the commercial market was the driving force behind the birth of our company. Strait Shine is our homage to the era of Prohibition and illegal moonshining. PEI endured prohibition for the longest time in all of Canada. It played an active role in illegal shine production and its illicit shipment to the USA. Consequently PEI and Shine have a rich interwoven and largely untold history.

The differences between illegal moonshine and Strait Shine are very simple:- quality, consistency and taxes. If Al Capone had paid his taxes, he wouldn't have gone to jail!

In creating Strait Shine, we have tried to be true to the history and spirit of illegal moonshine, yet deliver a smooth, consistent, pleasing and legal product.

Fermented on-site from pure cane sugar and high grade molasses and carefully distilled through our state of the art copper still. Perfectly blended to create the unique character and flavour that is Strait Shine.

Bottled at 50% alc./vol. Tax paid. Novel and unique.

'...fermented on-site from pure cane sugar...' NOT Potatoes????? I can't believe it!
Let us all know if it's all it's expected to be. I might want to try something (anything?) from PEI that wasn't made or grown from a spud.

I've heard that sugar shine is pretty good. Better than the stuff made from corn or potato's. Of course (cough) I've never (cough) actually tried any (cough) myself. (cough, cough cough)

Don't get me wrong, It's not the most exciting thing to drink. But it tastes very well made.

We also have a distiller here that has produced Blue Berry Vodka, Potato Vodka and Gin. I believe the Blue Berry vodka won gold at the world spirit awards before. Best tasting Vodka I've ever had. I took a tour of the distillery and it's quite a setup.
