I think you are putting the nail on the head here.
    Bourbon only requires a glass.

It would be interesting to do a survey (I expect those in charge of marketing the big brands already have) to find out what percentage of the buyers (end customers) of brand x would identify knowing its minimum age as a factor in their decision to buy it. I suspect it would be more than 1-5%, but I really have no idea.

They have the marketing muscle and apparently believe the numbers are in their favor.

They have the whiskey and apparently believe that works in their favor.

    Ultimate trump that is!

I also could not help but notice how the VOB BIB lost its age statement game played out (right into their hands). People were running out to clear the shelves like the end of time was upon us. I bet sales jumped 200% last month!

Hell, with those numbers, I'd look to drop an age statement (or two) every month!

yeah, sales seriously jumped as the shelves were cleared out, but......

the shelves were cleared by those who enjoy the product, and probably wont be buying them any more from that point on. sales will nosedive once the --6-- label is all thats left.

My parallel theory has been a lot of stock not fitting profiles. I have had BT and ER10 store picks this year that was way outside bounds of the normal product. So they are scrambling to shuffle products around, and it never hurts to shuffle upmarket.

I can see this! I have had the same experience with both BT and ER10. BTW, I think I will be heading down to Louisville this week and plan to pick up another ER10 #162.

Still ample stock when I was there last week. Funny, the other barrels are long sold out even though a harsher profile. Guess low # wins sometimes.
