    Little Sips

Last night at a Mardi Gras Ball it hit me why some people don't drink bourbon or whiskey. A good friend of mine that I try to get to drink bourbon all of the time, asked me how do I drink that "stuff". I said this is not like a shot of jagermeister that we would shoot when we were in high school or college. This is something that you actually want to taste. And without thinking about it I said take a "little sip" and hold it in your mouth for a few seconds. (Now, I know what most of you or thinking about the "and hold it in his mouth for a few seconds" comment.... Get over it). Not to say that I didn't laugh about two minutes myself.
After drinking a whole glass of bourbon he told me "I get it now". Not that I am trying to recruit more bourbon drinkers (God knows plenty of them are coming on board every day).

To give you a little background about this type of party they usually only have Jim Beam and what most bartenders seem to think is bourbon, Jack Daniels.
So I brought my own bourbon to drink, Old Rip Van Winkle 10-year-old, and the latest Parkers Heritage addition.
But it made me realize that "little sips" is why I have 12 open bottles that take me 6 months to a year to drink.

Its all all about "Little Sips" and enjoying each bottle.

PS for those of you that don't know what Mardi Gras is, Google it.
It's basically a bunch of us Louisiana Coon Asses having an expensive party.

You nailed it with the little sips.
Another trick to help noobs enjoy Bourbon is to get them to hold their breath while taking the little sip and then exhale over it. So many people who began with wine inhale over the whiskey in their mouth and get their sinuses full of hot ethanol. Ruins the experience.

Everybody knows what Mardi Gras is but relatively few of us know what a Coon Ass is.
If God made anything better than bourbon he must have kept it for Hisself.

I admit it, I had to look up the CA word. But, I'm guessing that Woody might be a CA, because it sounds like you'll get your ass beat if you use the CA word, and you're not.

About 20 years ago I was checking into the Monteleone in NO making small talk with bellhop in parking garage, my brother in law and CA wife, who live in Morgan City within earshot. He, being an idiot, sees my Illinois plates and assumes he can make a couple derogatory comments about CAs. He would have gotten his ass beat but for me stepping in and cooling off my large, red faced and oil rig worker bil.

It is also helpful to teach them the Kentucky chew. It makes you look like you forgot to put in your dentures but it brings out notes that might otherwise be missed.

I go for a nice .5oz sip and let it coat the entire mouth. Swallow and exhale through the nose. Ahhhh

Yep! all of a sudden the gums get involved when you do the Kentucky Chew. Sometimes that makes for a much more enjoyable and longer finish.

OK for you but the small sip thing seemed to work pretty well for your Mama.
