[novice] Collecting.. Hoarding.. Prepping? / Lower Shelves

A novice tippler and slow drinker myself, I like to have a little more bourbon around than whatever's open.
I find myself thinking about these spirits and shopping for them maybe a little too often sometimes.

I find myself kind of collecting whiskeys. I don't collect as a profit-speculator.
Walletwise, it has seemed more logical for me and quicker to collect samples from the lower pricepoints.
Tastewise, I get things I want to try.

I find comfort in that in an emergency, even that 750ml of rotgut will probably be worth more to me than the money I spent getting it.
    I mean - in a hypothetical freak 12ft snowstorm - I can't do much with the greenbacks
but the bourbon will still tipple, share, trade, sanitize, burn and when the whiskey's gone I have a resealable, watertight container.

Is it normal to keep a "stash"?

When my wife says, "Buy one more, and I'll pour one out." It's happened (the warning, not the pouring) but I'm careful.

I think once you become a SB member having a "stash" is not only normal but expected.

My poor friend. You are on the first step of a journey of 10,000 miles. If you choose to continue.....
Then; welllllllll, there's gonna be a whole big damned bunch of bottles for you to drink, trade, burn, share, use for sanitizing whatever is appropriate (I don't judge), then you'll have a whole big damned bunch of bottles that will (mostly) reseal pretty well.
Sooooo decide now; before it's too late..... Or is it probably already waaaaaay too late, since you're on this board?
You have my sympathy, as well as my congratulations, sir!

Well, today the wife sat me down for "the talk" when she learned I had just bought 6 new bottles today (bring the total . . . well, let's just say north of 100). I didn't have the courage to break it to her that I'm committed for several more in the next few months (I mean, this isn't even my KY Sampler shopping!) Although, I may have to curb that some this trip. Or invest in a PO Box and some storage facility somewhere

[QUOTE=BigRich;406732]Gary, you can ...uh..."store" some at my place.

He already has several at my place! ...And, they are probably not the only 'secret stash' bottles of which Christy is unaware.
Then again, I have several of mine at his place of Gayle is unaware... so, I guess this is a workable system.
Have you any you'd like me to squirrel away, Rich? (Hint? Hint?)
I am a very reliable and honest person; however I do get pretty thirsty now and again.
