Re: What Bourbon Are You Drinking - Spring 2014

Doing another side-by-side comparisonk of RB 108 (old label) versus 112 (new label). When I first tried these two, the 112 was the clear winner. I still favor that one, but the 108 was closer tonight. Could be in the original comparison the 112 had been open for 2 weeks whereas the the 108 had just been cracked.

Fitz BIB. Used to enjoy it as a bar pour, but not enjoying this bottle much. I lately tend to use it as a primer, and dont plan to buy any more of it. Larceny is better, IMO

A bit of a tasting tonight just for the heck of it. Started with SAOS 7 yr bourbon 99 proof, followed with Old Blowhard, and now WT101. The SAOS is fantastic - caramels, toffee, vanilla. The Old Blowhard is.......interesting. Got that glue smell for a bit but it eventually wore off. Oak is present but fades away after a while. I agree with others that it tastes a little thin and could use another 7 to 10 proof points. It's tasty but not my favorite. Certainly not worth the price compared to the others here.

Having a pour of FRSmB2012 tonight. I haven't poured from this bottle in a while. Truly great pour.

Did a little SBS of SAOS 7 Yr and SAOS 10 Yr tonight. Both excellent, but I think I preferred the 7 Yr. Slightly better flavor to me, and a little less oaky than the 10 Yr. In today's climate, IMO, I'd say the 10 Yr is a very good bourbon and good value at around $50, while the 7 Yr is an excellent bourbon and excellent value at around $30. Good work SA.

Trying Bowman Gingerbread beer finish for the first time. Really enjoying it, with a lot of ginger on the finish.

It's a Four Roses kind of night. Started off with some PS OBSV and then followed up with the 2012 SmBLE. Now onto the 125th before bed.

Old Charter 12yr and Old Forester signature.

Very bold (in a great way) and stimulating nose on the OC12. Taste is nicely balanced - I'm liking these Charters a lot. This afternoon I tried a Louisville 8yr Charter and enjoyed it as well, but this 12 is definitely a bolder beast (10 more proof is part of that).

The Old Forester Signature - First time I've tried this. VERY smooth for a 100 proofer. Quiet nose and refreshing on the palate. Light body with a very peppery zing. Probably good in a cocktail that wants spice, but not much more sweetness, ie mixing with something that is already sweet on its own.
