Picked up a batch 29 Aberlour A'bunadh. Didn't get on the A'bunadh train until the 40s, so I'm excited to try this lonely feller out.

Also picked up a bottle of Springbank 12 CS. Forget which batch. Regardless, it doesn't seem to be available in Maryland, so I was happy to buy some in Louisville on my way through town.

Best kind of "purchase" today. A gift from a generous friend returning from London helps mark one off my rather excessive list of things to buy.

    Nikka Whisky from the Barrel

Have tried it in the past thanks to a generous SBer but now I have one of my very own! A blended whisky but I suspect a healthy component of malt from the two Asahi owned distilleries in the Nikka line, Yoichi and Miyagikyo, along with a pleasant dose of smoke. I recall it being a strong but well balanced whisky which is pretty much a hallmark of the Japanese whisky. I will be getting into this more tomorrow!

Interesting that the importer is La Maison du Whisky in Paris.
That yella whiskey runnin' down my throat like honey dew vine water and I took another slash…

Your friend is generous and has good taste. I opened a bottle of this a short while back, it was a Christmas present from my brother. Enjoying a small dram right now actually. There is some smoke definitely, but I find it comes out in the finish and the aftertaste. On the nose I can't really notice it, probably the peated Islay malts have dulled my senses to it! For some reason, the finish and lingering aftertaste remind me a little of a bottle of Springbank 12 CS that I once had, but perhaps that's just my imagination.

Definitely not your imagination! That was the first thought I had as well. The smoke is indeed subtle and doesn't compare well to an Islay but he Springbank CS 12 seems more reasonable comparison. As does the Westland American Malt we tried today oddly enough.
