I am not sure I could pay $150 for any bottle. I am not saying never and I don't question those who do. If Barterhouse dropped into the 40s, I would probably buy one. However, I can still buy a couple of OC10s for less than $40.

If you think of the pricing in terms of buying multiples, you're right - it would never make sense to pay more than $30 for a bottle I haven't picked up a Barterhouse, but think it is priced fairly for 20 yr old bourbon (heck, EC20 is well above that, and let's not even go to PVW). I was fortunate enough to taste it and just don't like it enough to pay what they want for it. I used to think "I'll never pay more than $100 for a bottle" . . . and then I tried somethings in that price range. At least for me, eventually the discussion in my head turned to "Hell, $200 is drinks/dinner for 2 at a very nice steakhouse . . . but this bottle will be around a bit longer than that!"

"Value" is fungible fellas. Those personal price caps are a slippery slope. I speak from lots of costly experience.

I've done that a few times but always feel cheated when I do.

Leaving a liquor store empty handed makes me feel like there's unfinished business.

The hands were full with tequila, single malt and wine. Just no bourbon.

Offered a new bourbon from Ballast Point and quickly passed. In case you don't recognize the name it's a California brewery that's trying to catch on to the bourbon bandwagon and yes, it's also distilled in CA. It comes in a fancy box but the bottle looks like Bullitt. When the guy offered it to me I had everything to do from laughing out loud when he started rambling on about how collectible it was going to be, blah, blah, blah.

Saw a barrel proof redemption rye. Anyone tried it?

Yes - have Batch 3 and really enjoy it (but heard horror stories about Batch 1). Not a lot of barrel proof rye options on the market, so if you like high-proof rye, I'd give it a shot.
