    Hello from Westchester, NY

I've been lurking on the site for a while. Finally filled in my profile and thought it was time to introduce myself.

It seems there is so much to learn about whiskey, although I suppose this is just a consequence of the times we live in. Information is always piling up on the internet. New bottlings coming out all the time, some of which are products that have genuinely never been tasted before, and some of which are clever manipulations of products (arguably new, and never-before-tasted, perhaps, but still) that have been around since my father started drinking whiskey. It's challenging and frustrating, but also a lot of fun, as long as you can maintain some healthy perspective on how much time, money, mental energy, shelf space, etc. you can devote to keeping up without sacrificing something else that's important. Which sounds simple enough but is not at all something I feel like I've figured out how to do.

Anyway, thanks for being here. I look forward to learning a lot.

Howdy, I was White Plains born and raised!

Judging from NY prices, I can understand how frustrating whiskey can be.

Anyhow, welcome! Lots a good stuff to learn here and from good people to boot.

Welcome to 'the board', warburton! Glad you've joined in the conversation.
As to getting into "the life".... It can be as slim or as fat as you want it to be.
Some very knowledgeable folks here to guide you. Don't be afraid to ask a question, if you come across something you want clarified.
There are no minimums as far as how many bottles you keep, or taste (but more = more fun as a rule). Of course the more you acquire, the more you'll be slimming your wallet down. An issue with which most of deal, to one degree or another.
Remember to have FUN! If you're not enjoying the hobby, you're not doing it right!
Also remember these words to live by... The journey IS the destination.

Popcorn Sutton? An interesting choice, especially for Westchester. Is there a story? My family in Tennessee introduced me to that, and the story, last year. Welcome.

@danz: No direct connection, just a reference to my roots in NC (been living in NY for a while now, but was raised a Tar Heel, with family on both sides just east of the TN line).
