Re: Best Ginger Ale for mixing with bourbon

I figured it would be a much safer question than "can I have a list of best bourbons?" Im now on the hunt for bienheim as well. I may also try a few ginger beers.

I love Vernors (biased Michigander), but I also really love Firey Ginger Beer (which is from the UK, but is sold in Publix and some other stores). Has some great ginger zip to it!

I'll second Vernors. My favorite is Stewart's but I don't think they make it anymore. That stuff was liquid fire.

As noted above, Vernor's is the best ginger ale. It is not made to be mixed with bourbon. You can put a scoop of vanilla ice cream in it, but you should not put any bourbon in it. None ever, it will ruin both the Vernor's and the bourbon.

I never liked the bastardized Vernor's as a child (strong wood flavors IIRC) and I still don't like it as an adult. I've found Ale-8 to be too sweet (and I think it has caffeine). There's a brand around here called Cotton Club "less sweet" ginger ale that I prefer.

Hoping to gets my hands on some Blenheim, tho not to mix with bourbon or rye. I like the taste of ginger ale it over ice.

Best Ginger Ale for mixing with bourbon

Vernor's and Ale-8 are both in my fridge right now. I am a lucky dog in that I can get both in my part of KY. Back in the day my Grandmother and Grandfather would take my Mom and her three bros. back to Detroit to visit grandma's family. They would load up the car with Vernor's so they could enjoy back home in KY. Back on subject, I enjoy both with Bourbon depending on the style of spirit in question. It's a trial and error sort of thing. However Vernors and Starlight Applejack from Ted Huber is amazing. Vernor's spice and the apple from the spirits with a hint of vanilla in the background. The youthful burn that tried to hide the apple flavor of the Applejack is tamed by the ginger ale and makes for a great mixer.

Given the apparent extensive interest in ginger ale/beer I will see if I can track down some Blenheim, both red and gold cap, to bring north next week for the cookout if there is interest.
That yella whiskey runnin' down my throat like honey dew vine water and I took another slash…
