    bourbons closest to rye

    Hi folks,

I make cocktails often and sometimes they call for rye. My bottle of Rittenhouse recently went dry and rather than replace it I would rather substitute one of the many bourbons in my bunker. Just wondering if I could get a heads up from the SB intelligencia as to what bourbons you folks would consider closest to a rye. I ask because quite a few of my bottles are unopened and I don't want to pop a bunch just to find out. Sam Houston 10yr comes to mind, seem to remember it being quite rye like.

Sorry if it's a silly question but it would be helpful to me. Thanks for any input!

Old Grand Dad BIB neatly falls into that category. It's definably Bourbon in profile yet the rye shines through.

Some Four Roses and Bulleit have a high-rye content.

    OGD makes a tasty Manhattan.
Of course, it'd be easier if we knew what's in that bunker...

Not to state the obvious, but there's Redemption High-Rye Bourbon, which I quite like.

Can you be a bit more specific Clay, what is it about Redemption you like?

OGD 114. Good for sippin' and mixin'.
I've never tried GTS with any sort of soda. Maybe I'm missing out; but I'm OK with that.

I like Old Forrester Signature for a high-rye bourbon (as well as OGD BIB or 114).

As much as I like OGD 114 the BIB is my preference for cocktails or mixers, it just seems to have a better balance for that purpose.

Can't go wrong with all three. Sipping, mixing or just plain gulzzing.
