Re: What "Other American Whisky" are you drinking?

Damn, second thread I've seen lately mentioning Mellow Corn. Gonna have to pick up a bottle as soon as my self imposed purchasing ban is lifted.

The amazing thing so far Joe is every time I go to the bunker to retrieve a bottle I'm just happy/happy with what I find.

The bad thing about my bunker is that I don't have a written inventory of what is down there. That's the good news too as every case is closed and I don't know what's inside until I lift up the flaps.

    It's like Christmas/birthday presents once/twice a week.

I have a written inventory and I still find the occasional surprise...

Same here - I do an actual physical inventory twice a year, and almost always find either a bottle I didn't have on the list, or a bottle I finished and forgot to remove (and a bottle that I have on the list, have in the cupboard, but overlook too often). Gives me a chance to reshuffle the bottles

Clyde Mays with an ice ball. It is definitely the strangest whiskey I have had in awhile, but, I dig it. What are everyone's thoughts on ol Clyde?

Had some Charbay R3 this weekend. That stuff blows my mind.

Woodford Reserve Malt Whiskey, the one not aged in new charred barrels. The spirit itself is of high quality, soft and rich but it's too young, it has the same bread dough flavour all the other releases have (that I've tasted) from the Versailles still. It needs years more aging and then would be an outstanding malt IMO. Very similar to many craft distillers' output.

Makes me concerned for the proposed PHC malt whiskey although it is likely more like the Woodford malt in new oak. Perhaps a column still distillate will stand up better? The current rumor as I recall was only 6 years old and new oak.

A couple pours of Bernheim on this muggy evening.
