How Do You Drink Your Bourbon?

In my younger days, we took inspiration from the movie Animal House,
and would fill an empty Jack Daniels bottle with iced tea so that we could
"chug the bottle". It makes people's eyes get REAL BIG when they see that...

I was waiting for someone to suggest that. I wasn't about to jump straight to my insatiable thirst and the way I've learned to take my Bourbon through an IV drip....

Usually straight, but some pours I prefer with a cube or two. In the summer, I occasionally like to fill a rocks glass with crushed ice from the fridge and then fill the glass up to the rim with bourbon, though I usually do this with 'cheaper' bourbon, not something like Hirsch 16, Pappy etc...

When I drank more scotch, years ago, I often enjoyed scotch with Perrier. I can imagine it would also be good with bourbon. Yes, very nice.

Actually, I am more likely to add water to lower proof bourbon to brink out more flavors. I usually enjoy the intense flavors of my favorite high-proof bourbons (e.g., Rare Breed, Old Grand Dad 114), straight.

When I first started drinking bourbon, I always ordered it on the rocks. After a while, I started noticing that other people I know who are into bourbon, and have been drinking it for longer than I have, pretty much always order it neat. So, I started adding less and less ice. After a while it got to the point where when I would order bourbon in a restaurant, I would ask waiters to add only one or two cubes. This always seemed a little particular to me so I finally took the plunge and started ordering it neat. I have been drinking my bourbon neat ever since. I am now convinced that if your stomach can handle it, neat is the way to go.

I'm not fixed on one way to enjoy Bourbon. If it is $30+ I drink it with a little crushed ice. If it is less then $30 I will mix most of the time. A dash of Coke can make Ezra, EW, and JB a bit easier to take. On the other hand I have found nothing to help Scotch.

Generally, I take it neat. I sometimes throw a few cubes in, but there is little rhyme or reason as to why.

I usually drink my boubron neat with a glass of diet Lime Coke with plenty of ice on the side. Oh so tasty.
